Names of Jesus ~ Verse-A-Day Challenge

Thank you for all the kind words and prayers for myself and my dog.  Over the next two weeks I have three different appointments for further testing.  Please continue to pray for me through these test and for some answers.

I apologize for being so late on posting the verse-a-day challenge for December.  I have something I have been working on for about two weeks now that I wanted to finish before I shared the verse-a-day challenge, but I have not been able to finish it yet.  Be sure to keep your eyes open for it hopefully this week.

For the month of December, I decided to do verses related to the names of Jesus and I selected these verses because they are the verses I am using in my advent countdown with my children.  These verses came from Faith Heirlooms and their awesome advent kit.  If you haven’t seen it yet, make sure you head on over to their shop and grab it.  Their kit is prefect for using with the verse-a-day challenge.

Verse-a-day

If you are new to my challenge its really very simple.  Each day look up the verse(s) for that day and spend some time reflecting on it.  When you read the passage what is God saying to you?  Once you have read it and spent some time reflecting on it spend a little more time and journal it in your Bible, notebook or just a piece of paper.

After you are done Bible journaling it take a picture and share it with us in my group, Beginner Bible Journaling.

If you share your Bible journaling work on Instagram use #ChristianCreativeChallenge so we can connect.  Just remember if your account is private I won’t be able to find you from the hashtag, but it will help you find others who are also participating in the challenge.

Finally make sure you print the image above so you can easily reference back to the list of verses for the challenge.

Thank you all for joining me on this journey through the verse-a-day challenge and I would like for you to all be in prayer with me about what God will bring next into our group.  God bless!!

Mighty Readers Workbook – Book Review

Did you know Bradley is learning to read this year??  Looking for good books to use in the process has been quiet a challenge.  But Mighty Reader Workbook by Heidi Cooley has been a huge help in the process.  I don’t have to stress about prescreening all of the stories because I know they are good wholesome stories that are teaching the truth and love.

MightyReaderWorkbook_1stGrade

Mighty Readers Workbook covers some of my favorite Bible stories include:  Noah and the Ark, Jonah and the Great Task, Joseph and the Colorful Coat, Moses and the Ten Plagues, David and Goliath, Three Friends in the Fiery Furnace, Daniel and the Lions, Queen Ester, Jesus is Born, Zacchaeus Climbs a Tree, Jesus Feeds the 5,000, Jesus and the Cross and Jesus and the Empty Tomb.

Each story has a list of vocabulary words already selected for me with the definitions in the workbook.  Each story is broken down into a week of work helping children spend time focusing on the story and learning several great reading skills each week including comprehension questions, context clues, inferencing, key details, problem solution, visualization, synonyms, connecting writing with reading and text features.

Mighty Readers Workbook is a great addition to any homeschool home or a parent looking to help your children with some additional reading.  I would highly recommend this book to any of my friends.

If you love Mighty Readers Workbook for grade one I recommend you also check out Mighty Readers Workbook for grade two.

Inspire for Girls – Book Review

I am so excited to be bring this review to you.  Today I am sharing with you my opinions of the new Inspire for Girls journaling Bible.  Make sure you check out my video flip through of the Bible here.

I absolutely love the colors of this Bible.  Pink and turquoise are my favorite colors.  The Inspire for Girls journaling Bible is the NLT translation.  I am not reviewing the translation of the Bible, but I do want to make sure you know which translation this Bible is.  The Inspire for Girls includes beautiful two-color interior, 500+ line-art illustrations to color, 300+ devotional readings and prayers written just for girls, 150+ journaling prompts paired with devotionals, 64 key Scripture verse pages for coloring and memorization and 64 fun facts lists highlight interesting facts for each book of the Bible.  I love that the Inspire Bible for Girls is filled with so many pre-designed pages but still has pages throughout the Bible for girls to create their own designs.

While I do love this Bible there are few features to this Bible which I am not super excited about.  Those features include it being a soft cover Bible and not having any bookmarks in the Bible.  Also the way the Bible is bound together I can not add ribbons into the spine like I usually do.  Other than those few features, I absolutely love the Inspire Bible for Girls.

Seek-and-Circle Bible Battles – Book Review

Sometimes it can be hard for children to connect different stories in the Bible together and see how God is always with us.  In Seek-and-Circle Bible Battles the author really helps children with connecting different Bible stories together.

One of my favorite Bible stories as a child is the armor of God.  Seek-and-Circle Bible Battles takes Ephesians 6:10-19 (The Armor of God) and connects it with different battles through out the Bible including The Battle of Jericho; Israel vs. the Five Kings; Deborah, Barak, and Jael; Gideon vs. the Midianites; David and Goliath and Judah Taken Captive.  Its a fun an interactive book with activities for your child to do with each story.  Since the book is a hard back you can use a dry erase marker and read through the stories time and time again completing the activities over and over again.  I am not sure about you but the more I read a Bible story the more I learn and I know its the same for my children.

Seek-and-Circle Bible Battles is a fun interactive book that we use time and time again during Bible time in our homeschool days.  I would highly recommend this book to any family, homeschool mom and Sunday school teacher.

Secret Keeper Girl – Book Review

Raising kids is hard!! With the way society is open about so many things these days that you didn’t do when I was a child makes it even harder. I have a daughter who majorly struggles with accepting herself the way she is. When I saw this book I knew it was one I wanted to read and share with her and I am so glad I made that decision. Secret Keeper Girl has been such a helpful tool in discussing some of those matters with my daughter.

She said “it really helps me a lot” and “I think it could really help a lot of other girls”.

As Mom I love how the book expresses what I am trying to teach my daughter but on her level.  Secret Keeper Girl was so easy for my daughter to connect with and see herself in the stories in the book which makes it a huge win in my opinion.  Being completely honest some times children need to hear (or read it) from someone else other than Mom all the time.

Secret Keeper Girl

If you have a daughter or granddaughter who struggles with self image I would highly recommend Secret Keeper Girl.  My older daughter said it is great for younger children, but at 14 she felt like she was too old for it.  I would highly recommend it for girls ages 8-12 year old!!

The Ultimate Bible Journaling Retreat Recap

If you have never been on a women’s retreat, I highly recommend you go!!  This was my first retreat and I must say I had the time of my life.  About six months ago I was contacted by Monica from The Bright Bible asking me about teaching at a Bible journaling retreat.  When I agreed to go I knew it would be good for me as far as connecting with sharing Bible journaling with others, but I never realized until experiencing the retreat the love I would receive from complete strangers.  The bar was set really high for me as to what to expect from women’s retreats in the future.

On Wednesday, my best friend and I left Alabama and drove about 900 miles to Northern Michigan.  I really didn’t know what to expect when I arrived other than I would be teaching on Friday.  We arrived about 2 AM EST on Thursday morning after passing the driveway and having a off roading experience I am pretty sure neither one of us will ever forget.  However, once we arrived we were greeted with much love.

The retreat didn’t start until Thursday evening so we had all day Thursday to explore the small town of Mancelona and get settled into our house.  Thursday evening everyone started arriving and it was so much fun getting to meet everyone.  On Friday I spent the day teaching “The Basics of Bible Journaling”.  We had some of the most amazing food.  Saturday was a different experience for me.  Instead of teaching all day I got to spend the day experiencing the classes.  I learned so much in the three classes that I want to incorporate not only into my Bible journaling but also into my spiritual life.

I returned home from the Ultimate Bible Journaling Retreat with a renewed spirit and deeper love for God.  I know the whole time we were there the Holy Spirit was with us and moving through out the retreat.  From the music, to the food, to the location and the classes it was all amazing.  I can’t wait to go back next year and experience it all again.

To see a video of pictures and video clips from the retreat make sure you head on over to my YouTube channel and check it out here.
